Seventy years ago Mason Amherst, the dictator of Canada, was a beacon of hope for the world. The Mutant War and the Final War had left the world in shambles. Governments were torn apart and by the end of these bloody wars, only fifteen percent of the world’s population was left alive. Most deaths were largely due to a biochemical weapon designed by Canada’s previous Prime Minister called the “The End Virus”. Lord Amherst, backed by the financially rich and powerful Merwell family, promised to create a society in which everyone would be happy and comfortable. Essentially he offered Canada a Utopian society.
It turned out to be anything but that.
Ottawa, the capitol of Canada, erected huge walls to enclose the population within the city and keep everyone else out. Escaping is impossible. Sneaking in is impossible. The dictator has absolute control. Anyone who lives outside the walls barely manages to stay alive. Mutants are killed on sight, and a new test allows for the mutant gene to be detected in an infant at birth. Within Ottawa, it is slightly different. Mutants are taken to be experimented on, turned into soldiers, or “domesticated”. They’re sold in shops like animals and are little more than pets to free labor. But after seventy years of the dictator’s and Merwell’s rule, the after-effect of The End Virus on mutants has slightly altered the M-gene that determines mutant from human. It allows for a mutant’s identity to not be detected by the mutant test. For every three humans there is now at least one free mutant running lose in the streets of Ottawa. The leaders of Canada just don’t know it yet. With a growing rebellion hidden in the shadows of the crime world within Ottawa, war seems inevitably on the horizon yet again… but can the world really handle another all out war?
